In the second quarter of this year, the trend remained bad for PC sales according to the report published by International Data Corporation (IDC). After two years of insane growth, the return to more rational figures has been painful, combining a logical drop in demand with once again worries about supply and logistics due to blockages in China, the resurgence of COVID-19 and persistent macroeconomic instability.

PC Sales: Far from a Disaster
But as we’ve said before, a return to more normal consumption volumes was to be expected. The Covid period having literally boosted sales, being alarmed about these figures does not really make sense. Because if IDC’s figures confirm a second consecutive negative quarter, total PC volume remains comparable to that measured at the beginning of the pandemic . For example, in Q2 2020, volumes reached 74.3 million PCs, which is already a very good number. If we rewind the clock a bit more to pre-pandemic, in the same second quarter of 2018 and 2019, sales volumes were 62.1 million and 65.1 million PCs, respectively.
