Ryzen 9000s are still revealing all their secrets, and this time we can see how the 9950X performs on Blender. Note that the processor is an engineering sample, and operated with a power consumption limit of 90W!
Ryzen 9 9950X: first glimpse in Blender!
The Ryzen 9 9950X represents AMD’s new spearhead on socket AM5. It features a total of 16 cores, 32 threads and official frequencies of up to 5.7 GHz. However, the Blender test was carried out with an engineering sample model whose PPT was set at just 90W!

Despite this highly restricted limit (230W by default), the processor proves to be efficient. In fact, in the Monster, Junkshop and Classroom tests, the CPU scored 228 pts, 151 pts and 109 pts respectively.
Compared with a Ryzen 9 5950X, scores are much higher, with an overall improvement of 18% to 19% and much lower power consumption. Remember that the 5950X is 142W PPT. However, the 7950X, with its 230W PPT, comes out well ahead, with results 17 to 30% higher, depending on the test.
Finally, it’s a shame we didn’t see how the processor performed in its default configuration, as the scores would have been interesting.
