At Toshiba, we have the right to a new hard disk with very large capacities. Indeed, the Japanese brand announces its MN09 in 18 TB, specially designed to work in NAS. Clearly, as far as very large capacities are concerned, nothing will replace our good old hard drives!

With this model, the brand offers us a good big hard drive in 3.5″ format. However, this model is quite heavy with its 720 g on the scale, clearly, it is not a featherweight. On the other hand, it must be said that with its nine platters, it does not help… But you need what it takes to reach 18TB of capacity. Moreover, to achieve this, the brand relies on FC-MAMR technology.
Otherwise, this disk has a SATA III interface in 6 Gb/s and will run at 7200 RPM. Of course, we find a cache of 512 MB as well as transfer speeds of 268 MB/s. Toshiba is also announcing a 1.2 million hour MTTF as well as 180TB year-round endurance. Finally, given that they have a professional vocation, you should know that the typical consumption in idle is 4.14W. An important data if you want to deploy a large number of disks.
Unfortunately no price has been announced, however, keep in mind that with such capacities, prices quickly reach several hundred euros.
