Last week we tested the Teamgroup Delta RGB DDR5 memory kit at 7200 MT/s CL34. This kit equipped with Hynix A-die chips made a strong impression on us as we managed to push it to 8200 MT/s CL34 on our copy of the ROG Maximus Z690 APEX associated with a Raptor Lake i9-13900K.
Since the publication of our article, we have received a copy of the new ROG Maximus APEX built around the Z790 chipset. If this new APEX shares a design very close to that of the previous generation, we were eager to know if the performance in memory overclocking would be as good or even better.
And the least we can say is that we were not disappointed. Once again, thanks to the Asus team that works on its BIOS regularly and that allowed us to test three different ones since we received the Maximus Z790 APEX. We were able to reach a frequency of 8450 MHz with aircooling and timings of 34-45-45-30. Until a few weeks ago, we would never have imagined that we could reach these frequencies in aircooling.
Of course, to do this, we had to push the voltages and especially the VDD to 1.66 volt and the VDDQ to 1.67 volt. It is a frequency used for bencher and not for a H24 use. But you should know that several brands should offer kits with an XMP at 8000 MT/s in the near future. This week, you will have the right to two new DDR5 kits tests with the GSKill Trident Z5 RGB 6800 MT/s CL34 and the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 7200 MT/s CL34. These two new kits are also equipped with Hynix A-die chips.
