5800X3D: towards a “paper launch”?

This processor is intended to be AMD’s answer to Intel with a significant improvement in performance in games thanks to a dose of additional L3 cache. However, according to the latest rumors, this processor will be almost impossible to find on the market. The main reason would be that the 3D SoIC technology from TSMC used for this Ryzen 5800X3D but also for some Epyc, is not yet in volume production and that the little capacity available is allocated primarily to EPYC chips for the professional market. TSMC is racing against time to build a new state-of-the-art packaging plant in Chunan, Taiwan. However, commissioning of the latter may not come quickly enough for 5800X3D volume production before the introduction of Zen 4 later this year. So it seems that this Ryzen could just be a spin-off to keep the media busy. The customers who will be able to get their hands on a copy of this processor will be very very limited.
