Intel GPUs ahead in 2023?

As soon as we saw the first concrete elements about the ARC GPUs, our contacts told us that we should really count on Intel on the graphics card market, but only in 2023. At first, we took this as caution, or even a form of false modesty, in order to hide our game when everyone is waiting for the blues in 2022.

What should we expect for 2022 with Intel ARC GPUs?

Even though we don’t have any certainty with CES 2022 just a few hours away, there are still some elements that allow us to draw Intel’s strategy for 2022. The ARC Alchemist series should cover what is vulgarly called the “fat” of the market. This spectrum goes from the “GTX” that Nvidia seems to have abandoned ( 1650/1660…) to the RTX 3070. For the moment, nothing that really makes enthusiasts dream. But if Intel really manages to settle in this segment, it will quickly build experience and credibility. We should also not forget that on the Nvidia side, the replacement of Ampere is already underway. Intel’s strategy seems to be to settle in gradually and “quietly”, aiming for 5 to 7% of the market by 2022. Let’s not forget that beyond the raw power of the GPU, NVIDIA and AMD have worked for years to optimize their drivers and benefit from an extended compatibility on all games. It is a very optimistic assumption that Intel will be on par with the competition as soon as it arrives. On the market of graphics cards for laptops, the information we have leads us to believe that the blue are more ambitious… Which would explain the arrival of this RTX 3080Ti that nothing justifies for the moment. The fact remains that in 2022, beyond the qualities of future GPUs, Intel will have a hard time delivering, like all the others. But a newcomer to the market means additional volume available for the customer…

The ARC Battlemange series: Intel’s big ambition

In the latest video published by Moore’s Law is Dead we find a lot of words and phrases that we have heard from our contacts and sources. This is no guarantee of absolute truth, but a trend is emerging: in 2023 the DG3 ARC Battlemage GPUs will target the high-end segment. The Battlemage generation (also codenamed Elasti ) will be immediately competitive with Ada Lovelace. But above all, Intel should start to take advantage of a real dedicated production capacity to have more ambitions. So we’ll have to watch Intel’s arrival on the market carefully in the coming weeks. We now know that a substantial roadmap is in the works, the first steps of the ARC GPUs will condition the acceleration or burial of this one.
