At CES 2022, AMD presented its new mobile processors using Zen 3+ architecture and RDNA2: Rembrandt.

5 GHz and RDNA2 for Rembrandt processors

Replacing the Ryzen 5000 processors (Cezanne), AMD unveils the new Ryzen 6000 named Rembrandt, bringing several improvements to the Zen 3 architecture.

AMD introduces with its processors the Zen 3+ architecture for its mobile APUs with several changes compared to the classic Zen 3. The engraving goes from 7nm to 6nm, allowing a boost in CPU efficiency coupled with the new power management system that further increases the energy efficiency of the processor.

One of the most important changes concerns the IO, with the arrival of new features on the AMD platform such as USB 4.0 and PCIe 4.0 or Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Regarding memory, we have the right to support LPDDR5-6400 and DDR5-4800 for the first time at AMD.

On the graphics side there are also changes with the abandonment (finally!) of the Vega architecture, replaced by RDNA2. On the program, up to 12 CU with a frequency reaching 2.4 GHz, all coupled with LPDDR5 and DDR5, this iGPU promises a considerable gain in performance compared to the previous Ryzen 5000 mobile.

Thus, AMD compares its Ryzen 7 6800U, equipped with 12 CU RDNA2 but with a frequency reaching 2.2 GHz, to the Ryzen 5800U with 8 CU Vega clocked at 2.0 GHz. The 6800U would literally crush the 5800U with performances between 80% and 110% higher depending on the games tested by the brand.

13 new mobile processors will be launched. Be careful though, 3 will be refreshes of the Cezanne generation, still using Zen 3 and Vega. AMD expects that more than 200 new laptops using Ryzen 6000 and 5000 CPUs will arrive in 2022.
